With 30 years of experience in the printing and packaging industry, Balamurugan Pandian, Owner & Managing Partner of BM PRINTIST, brings both hands-on production expertise and a strong commercial perspective to the business.

Balamurugan began his career as a flexo printer, working with a wide range of flexographic printing machines. After ten years in production, he moved into technical, sales and marketing roles, representing flexo and rotogravure printing machines, equipment and ancillary products for the converting industry.

Today, his broad experience gives him a deep understanding of both the technical challenges printers face and the solutions that can make a real difference in their daily operations.

“As Managing Partner of BM PRINTIST, I combine hands-on technical knowledge with strategic business leadership, supporting customers with reliable solutions, product expertise, and long-term partnerships.”

Growing together with Swedev

Balamurugan’s journey with Swedev began in 2012 – the start of a partnership that has continued to grow for more than 14 years. In 2019, that journey reached an important milestone.

“After decades of working for various companies in the printing industry, I was given the opportunity to take the next step and start a business of my own. With Swedev’s trust and support, BM PRINTIST was established in Chennai, India, as the exclusive distributor of Swedcut® doctor blades.”

Building trust through quality

For Balamurugan, MicroKote G stands out for the difference it makes in customers’ daily production and has become a preferred choice among many of BM PRINTIST’s customers.

“MicroKote G has earned the trust of many of our customers through its consistent quality and trouble-free performance. Its precision helps narrow web printers reduce process defects, resulting in smoother operations and higher productivity. It’s not just value for money – it delivers much more than that.”

MicroKote G is also widely recommended by machine manufacturers, anilox suppliers and ink suppliers. Among BM PRINTIST’s customers, it remains the most preferred Swedcut® doctor blade, followed by MicroNox II, which offers a balance between performance and competitive pricing.

Building a strong position for premium doctor blades in India has not been without its challenges. The market is highly price-sensitive, with strong competition from local manufacturers. Despite this, BM PRINTIST has successfully helped establish Swedcut® as one of the top three doctor blade brands in India.

While Swedcut® doctor blades are used across a wide range of printing and coating applications, BM PRINTIST has built a particularly strong presence in the flexographic industry.

“A growing number of flexo customers rely on Swedcut doctor blades. For us, that is a strong sign of the trust we have built around the quality and reliability of the products.”

For Balamurugan, one customer experience in particular shows what that reliability can mean in practice:

The start of a decade-long partnership

For years, a leading label printer had relied exclusively on a competitor’s coated doctor blades. But when a severe ink spitting problem brought production to a standstill, multiple blade changes and support from suppliers failed to solve the issue.

At the recommendation of their ink supplier, they contacted BM PRINTIST. Balamurugan suggested trying Swedcut® MicroKote G and immediately sent samples. By the next afternoon, the customer called back: the press was running smoothly again, with no ink spitting.

“That moment marked the beginning of a partnership that has now lasted for more than a decade, built on reliable performance, uninterrupted production and, ultimately, a good night’s sleep.”

Selling solutions, not just products

Experiences like this have shaped Balamurugan’s approach to sales. For him, the starting point is always to understand the customer’s production, expectations and challenges before recommending a blade.

“First, you need to understand the customer’s expectations and the problems they are experiencing. Only then can you recommend the right blade and help them reduce problems and waste.”

An important part of the job is also helping customers understand the role a doctor blade plays in the printing process. Rather than viewing it simply as a consumable, Balamurugan encourages customers to see it as a precision-engineered product with a direct impact on ink metering, print quality and cost control.

“We are not just selling doctor blades. With our knowledge and experience, we can help customers improve productivity, reduce downtime and waste, and even prevent damage and accidents.”

His advice to other distributors also extends beyond the customer relationship:

• Build strong connections with industry partners that can create valuable opportunities.

• Attend Trade shows, seminars, open houses and conferences, they are equally important for building visibility and credibility within the industry.

The true value of Swedcut

For Balamurugan, the value of Swedcut goes beyond the doctor blades themselves. Consistent quality, combined with fast service and support from the Swedev team, has been an important part of the partnership over the years.

“In the printing and packaging industry, consistency and reliability really matter. Downtime or quality issues can quickly affect both production and customer relationships. With Swedcut, we can offer our customers not only consistent quality, but also the service and support they need. That creates real value.”
